Adopt Me!

Nino/ a.k.a. Aspen & ARLP Volunteer Sara
Today Daphne and I went to our first ARLP adoption day event together! Many thanks to Plymouth Pets’mart. I had forgotten how much I enjoy adoption days. Not only is it a pittie lover’s delight to see all the program dogs, I get to see my fellow ARLP-ers of the human persuasion. And I got to see how Punk Rock does in public with so many dogs, humans and other distractions.
Punk is essentially a love slut. (The Otis Redding song Love Man suddenly bounces around my head.) Not an attention whore, mind you, but a “rub me down and let me rest my head on your shoulder” slut.
I also discovered Daphne can have the patience of a saint with some snarkiness from one dog but will be overly concerned and ready to throw down with large black dogs and Golden Retrievers who carry their own leashes and have no owner instilled boundaries.
Just because an owner thinks their dog’s behavior is cute doesn’t mean the rest of us do. No one I know actually lets his or her dog encroach upon the space of the Pets’mart employee contained behind the counter. Maybe us pittie folks are just so stigmatized it is instinctual for us to be respectful of others. It is a shame we are forced to continually mind our Ps & Qs due to the breed of our dog while others just let their dog lift their leg on the world. ** K – I am done with that rant.
Back to the good stuff.
Now I must confess that ARLP has the most awesome dogs!! What a crew we had today, barks go out to Moo Cow Andie, Nino (a.k.a. Aspen), Wonky & Princess Henna.
I have begun this post with a picture of Nino coz I shot so little video of him!!! My bad. He is so sweet and mellow that he kinda faded in the backgroud while the others were hammin’ it up. Nino, or Niko as I was taken to call him, gives the smallest, driest most gentlest kisses evah! Not to mention he is one handsome devil. If Nino and Wonky went to the same house they would be the male pittie super models of the neighborhood.
Wonky is a little cricket of love! He makes the cutest cricket sound when he is brimming with excitement and anticipation. He reminds me so much of Bug I can’t take it. Why he is still in the program is beyond me. Which brings me to Andie Moo Cow! Why on earth is this little angel still around? I had the pleasure of spending a week and a half with Andie over the holidays. She is an absolute doll face. Darn near perfect actually. She is playful when it is appropriate and mellow when she needs to be. Sigh. Moo and Madeline got on famously.
Now Henna, oh my. This is one feisty little missy if I have ever seen one. Henna has personality to spare. She is also one of the most photogenic pitties ever. Which must be why when I cracked open my camera’s photo file it was loaded with Henna. I couldn’t believe it.
And we all know Daphne… my little sponge of love. I involuntarily found myself mourning the day she will have a new home. I just hope there is someone out there who will see beyond the cropped ears and peer into her soulful eyes and love her like I do.
