Woman bites pit bull…luckily
(Chi’s take on pit bull media hype)
The Associated Press released a story today in which a Minneapolis woman bit a pit bull who was attacking her dog.
A full report of the story can be viewed here: http://www.startribune.com/local/17247504.html
The short version is this:
A woman was walking her dog when a loose dog attacked it. While attempting to break up the fight the woman BIT the attacking dog ON THE NOSE hard enough to make the dog bleed. The dog is now in quarantine at Minneapolis Animal Care and Control in order to rule out the possibility of the dog having rabies.
Thanks to it being picked up by the Associated Press, this story is being reported all of the country. Cries about “those vicious pit bulls” are being flung about once again.
While I feel for the fear this woman must have felt seeing her pet being attacked and I’m delighted that both she and her dog will be alright, the thing that has me frustrated is the part of the story that they’re not mentioning.
This woman BIT a dog in the midst of a dog fight, hard enough to draw blood, and the dog DID NOT bite her back.
Frankly the woman is lucky that the dog WAS a pit bull…a breed who has been bred for decades to have a human friendly and tolerant disposition.
How many dogs do you know who would tolerate being bitten…and not bite back?

Thankfully it wasn’t a Lab… the face transplant in France can attest to that!
