BSL Defeated!

Well we did it! And boy it wasn’t easy. Many thanks to all the people who worked so hard at the capital to see this bill through to fruition - Nancy Minion (assisted with bill’s authorship), Bill Forbes (MACA), Rep. Michael Paymar and Sen. Ellen Anderson.
Big thanks also go out to the members of ARLP’s BSL Task Force.
Enormous thanks to you ARLP-ers, Rachel, Beth, Kellie, Roo and Lara (I was there too - darn it) who made our presence known and became familiar faces at the capital. As we saw - it mattered!
See the life of the bill from its beginning in the House to its movement and ultimate approval through the Senate. This bill is a wonderful example of how intense this process is.
This fight is not over. Rep. John Lesch has made that clear. While Mr. Lesch has indicated a desire to work with ARLP and other members of the animal community to design community programs around dog safety he later specifically stated on the House floor that he will pursue banning particular breeds of dogs again next legislative session. How can this contradictory behavior be trusted?
Lesch was given 2 songs on MPR’s Tom Scheck’s Songs of the Session they were:
Lay Down little doggies - Arlo Guthrie - DFL Rep. John Lesch’s breed specific dog ban.
For my Dogs - DMX - The backlash from Lesch’s proposal.
So for now all the Akitas, Chow Chows, pit bulls, Rottweilers of the fair state of Minnesota are safe. FOR NOW. We must keep our eye on Mr. Lesch and others like him who choose to blame the symptom rather than the disease.

This whole political game makes me simply want to puke! Here we site working day in and day out to make money so people like Lesch can live high on the hog on taxpayer dollars only so we can waste hundreds if not thousands of additional man hours fighting him so he doesnt take away the personal freedoms we pay him to protect…..sad…sad….sad.
Yippee for ARLP and for all the dog owners out there that are going to benefit from the hard work of those that championed this bill.
It is crazy that Lesch is still insisting on trying to push a breed ban. And sad that he can’t put his energies into more productive pursuits in terms of public safety and dog ownership. Of course, Larry said it well.
Nice pic by the way…a little creepy, but nice. HAHAHA.
