ARLP Education Programs

Kellie Diller teaching a Dog Safety Program
Education
Education is the MOST important factor in securing a future for the pit bull. We need to educate the public about responsible dog ownership. We must show them what and who a pit bull really is and the plight they are facing.
Even those who claim to love our breed frequently don’t understand what it means to be a truly responsible owner and are often a source of the problem.
While we are working on implementing additional programs, we are currently concentrating on these three core areas:
• Dogs in service
Dog Safety
ARLP’s education programs not only teach dog safety, they build awareness and teach empathy and compassion.
• Interactive dog safety program for children K-5
• ARLP presents dog safety programs in metro area schools, community centers, after school programs, and summer camps.
• Science Museum of Minnesota children’s Get Set to be a Vet camp
• Xcel Energy field worker training
• Dog safety by building a general understanding of canine body language and behavior.
The Dog Safety Program is one of the most intimate and direct ways in which ARLP volunteers can make a real impact on our communities. Dog days in school.

Dogs in service
We want our dogs to “give back” to their community. We do this by using them in a variety of therapy and service learning programs. Some of these include:
• Enrichment program with St. Paul School’s The Lab program
• St. Joseph’s Home for Children
• Harriet Tubman Domestic Violence Shelter
• Helping teenage mothers – parenting skills through working with dogs
The Dog Safety Program is one of the most intimate and direct ways in which ARLP volunteers can make a real impact on our communities.
ARLP is always in need of reliable help. As the program has caught on it has been difficult to keep up with the volume of requests. We are constantly on the look out for Teacher and Dog/Handler teams. Because many of these programs occur during the day it is difficult for our small core of dedicated volunteers to continue to get time away from work. Please contact ARLP if you are interested in helping out.
Additionally, ARLP is always looking for classrooms and children’s groups to bring our program to. If you are involved with kids and are interested in ARLP coming out to your class or group to conduct a Dog Safety Program we’d love to arrange something!
If you have any questions about the Dog Safety Program please contact our Director of Education Kellie Dillner
