Available Dogs

Below are the dogs currently looking for their forever homes. All dogs are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped prior to adoption.

All of our dogs attend at least one adoption day per month. This is a great opportunity to meet the dog and get an initial feel if they would be a good fit for you and your home. All of our adoption day dates and locations can be found here: ARLP Adoption Days.

Please email us at info@arottalove.org to find out if a specific dog will be at a specific location and if there is that "special dog" you're dying to meet email us and let us know and we'll try to make sure that dog is at the Adoption Day event that works for you.

DESPERATELY SEEKING FOSTER HOMES : The recent housing & economic crisis has hit our canine friends as hard or harder than even their human companions.

We are receiving requests to take in up to 20 dogs A WEEK, but simply have no where to put them.

PLEASE consider fostering a dog.

For more information on fostering for ARLP, please visit our Foster page.

NEW! We've started an ARLP blog..."It's a Rott'n Pitty" and we've asked the pooches to report in occasionally and let us know how they're doing on their search for a forever home. Check it out and see what our kids have to say.

It's a Rott'n Pitty

Don't see a dog who catches your eye? Stay tuned...we've always got dogs in their probationary period and everytime we get a new foster family...viola, new foster dogs :)

Tank

Tank
Sex: Male
Age: 2 years
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: No
Good with kids: Yes
Weight: 55 lbs.

Name/Nicknames: Tanker, TinkTank

How did I get to ARLP: I was found wandering and picked up by animal control. I had been kept outside, but that's not for me! Thankfully I had nice ladies looking out for me to make sure that ARLP would be able to find me a forever home!

Hobbies: I love chewing on nylabones, shredding stuffies and lazing on the couch with my foster momma. I like to run across the yard at full speed a couple times a day - no reason really...it's just FUN!

Tricks/Commands: I know sit, wait and kennel up. I am working on down, and come. I am a quick learner, and would love to go to class to learn more!! I've already mastered sitting nicely for my food - I am so smart :)

Crate Trained: Yes

Potty Trained: Yes

Size in pounds: About 55 lbs of lean muscle

Activity Level: Medium. If I get one good play session a day and some mental stimulation I am a happy boy!

Fun things I do: I love to run fast right up to you and pretend that I will jump up on you - but then I dont! (Hahaha...get's those humans every time!) I like to play tug with my foster sister. We find the smallest rope in the world to play with. Mom and dad say that is silly, but we have a good time.

I am working on:I am a little afraid of sticks (brooms and even long skinny toys) Someone didnt treat me very nicely in the past. I would like my new owners to help me work on this so I dont have to be timid around those things anymore.

Socialization/who I currently live with: I live with my foster mom and dad, my foster brother (5 yr old Rottie) and foster sister (3.5 year old Pittie).

Winston

Winston
Sex: Male
Age: 1.5 years
Good with dogs: Most
Good with cats: Yes
Good with kids: Yes
Weight: 50 lbs.

Name/Nicknames: Winston, Winnie, Dubya

How did I get to ARLP: I was originally picked up by ARLP as a stray puppy with my brother. I was adopted when I was about 9 months old, but unfortunately my dad couldn’t keep me for economic reasons. Now I’m back with my old foster mama!

Hobbies: Curling up next to mom and sleeping, playing tug with my foster sister Julia, trying to get my foster cat brothers to play, keeping a diligent watch on the sidewalk and letting mom know if anyone is walking by, tearing up stuffy toys when I can, and chowing on my Nylabone!

Tricks/Commands: I know sit and I’m good at waiting for my food. Mom says we need to work on my patience because I get REALLY excited when people come over to visit. I’m hoping to get enrolled in the next Rott ‘N Pittie ed class so I can put my smart brain to work!

Crate Trained: Absolutely. I spend most of the day in my crate when mom is at work. I don’t mind sleeping in there either, but mom often spoils me by letting me sleep in her room.

Potty Trained: I’m good at this, but I do dribble once in a while when I get excited. I need a pretty regular schedule but I try really hard not to have accidents.

Size in pounds: I think I’m around 50 pounds now, but I’m still on the skinny side. I’ve got really long legs for a pit!

Activity Level: Moderate. I’d probably run around with you for hours if you wanted me to, but I’m cool with just chilling around the house too. When I do get the zoomies my big legs go flying and sometimes I have trouble keeping them under me!

Fun things I do: Mom says I have a stealth tongue – I get a kiss in when she’s least expecting it! I actually love to cuddle up with my kitty brothers for a nap once in a while. I’m not a huge fan of the snow, but when it’s nice out I love to lay in the backyard and chew on a nice big stick.

Socialization/who I currently live with: I live with my foster dad. When meeting new dogs I like slow introductions, but I usually get along with anyone after we’ve been properly acquainted.

Maggie Moon

Maggie
Sex: Female
Age: 5 months
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Not sure, I haven't met one yet
Good with kids: Yes
Weight: 28 lbs.

Name/Nicknames: Maggie Moon, Moon Doggie, Miss Moon, Moon Shadow, Moon Pie, The Divine Ms M.

How did I get to ARLP: The wonderful ladies at ARLP spotted me at MACC, where I was brought in as a stray, and thought I was a delightful little girl who deserved a chance at a better life.

Hobbies: Food! I wasn’t feed regularly and was really underweight when the gals found me, so one of my favorite pastimes is eating. You won’t find me turning up my nose up at anything - I am definitely not a picky eater. I love to eat and sometimes I eat way too fast so my foster momma has to remind me to sloooow down. I also have a special fondness for people. I absolutely love anyone of the 2 legged persuasion. When I see a person my whole body wiggles and I get very excited. I tend to fling myself at new people because I want to let them know how great it is to meet them and get as close as possible to give them kisses. Foster momma tells me it is nice that I like people but I do have to work on my manners when sharing the love.

Tricks/Commands: I am pretty young and I haven’t been at ARLP long so I am working on the basics. I sit for my meals, when coming into the house and I can mostly sit on command if there aren’t any distractions. I am still pretty new to this whole training thing – but my foster momma says I am really smart and I am the perfect age to learn new things.

Crate Trained: Working on it. Since I am still a puppy my foster momma comes home every day at lunch to let me out. She says I am really good at keeping my crate clean. If you are in the same room as me I am happy as a clam in my kennel – but if you are in another room I get sad and whine a little but – but not for too long.

Potty Trained: I cannot tell a lie…I am still a little girl who has the occasional accident but my foster momma says I am learning really fast. I am really good about taking care of business when we go outside – but if it is cold I sure don’t want to stay out there long. I am so happy for Spring!

Size in pounds: About 28 lbs. I am a skinny girl with a very long legs and a lanky frame.

Activity Level: I would say medium. I can get a good case of the zoomies and love to run and play, but when it is time to settle down I am more than happy to chew on my kong or snuggle up with the pack and just hang out.

Fun things I do: I like to play and wrestle with my foster sister. I also like a good game of tug and I am getting pretty good at playing fetch. I like long walks in the neighborhood – there are so many great things to smell and see. I enjoy cuddling with my foster momma and the gang. Oh I have to say I think that kongs are the greatest thing in the entire world!

Socialization/who I currently live with: I live with my foster momma, a foster pit bull sister and 2 foster lab brothers so I am getting lots of doggie socialization.

Pearla

Pearla
Sex: Female
Age: 3 years (born in 2007-ish; we can pick a birthday for me!)
Good with dogs: Some
Good with cats: No
Good with kids: Yes
Weight: 49 lbs.
UPDATE: In April, dear sweet Perla successfully achieved her Canine Good Citizen certificate AND passed her Therapy Dog test for TDI

Name/Nicknames: Precious, FrankenPearla, Fatty, Little Gem, Snuffleupagus

How did I get to ARLP: October, 2009 Good Samaritan found me bleeding, hairless, emaciated & freezing in FrogTown. This good person took me to the Emergency Room where they stitched up my gashes, kept me a few days, then brought me to Dr. Kate An Hunter, Carver Lake Vet. The good doctor kept me at her clinic for four months, while I battled various ailments, regained my strength, and slowly came back to life. Once I was healthy enough to leave the hospital, Dr. Hunter called ARLP to help my forever home find me.

Hobbies: I chase whatever moves. I love whatever you will throw for me--kongs, ropes, Jolly Balls (personal favorite), dirty socks, hats, gloves, towels, dishcloths, and even blankets. Of all the naughty (am I too big for “naughty” to be called “cute”?) things I chase, I love your socks the most. And I am, as they say, a power chewer. The biggest baddest rope knot does not stand a chance with me. I autographed the coffee table with my teeth, but was prevented from writing the full novel I had planned. Squeaky toys sometimes startle me, sometimes are the best toy in the house. Whatever I have, I will give up freely for something else of equal or higher value (except dirty socks – I keep those). I wear a shirt, sweater, or even a coat almost all the time as my hair is still growing back. I can jump straight up in the air for a ball, but I have yet to figure out how to jump into the car.

Tricks/Commands:
Hand Signals: Sit, down, stay, wait, come, heel, front, finish

Verbal Signals: Kennel up, Sit, down, stay, come, heel, let’s go (informal loose leash walking), front, go potty, OK (my favorite)

Sometimes loud noises startle me so badly I forget who and where I am, but the humans around me get my attention and ask me to do something I know, to help me remember. I get lots of praise for simple things like ‘sit’ after a scary incident, to help bring me back to earth and the good life.

Crate Trained: I used to hate my crate, though I never cried when you put me inside. Now, however, the humans have finally caught on that I love my food so much, I will do anything for it, including going into and STAYING in my crate. Stuffed kongs are the best, but since I became such an expert at emptying (stuffed frozen) kongs at record speed, now I find only one item in my kong that takes real work to remove. I spend the weekdays and overnights in my crate and even though I already said I’m a power chewer, I have not destroyed any of my bedding.

Potty Trained: Almost there. Living in a house is so different than the hospital!

Size in pounds: 49lbs of stocky specialness.

Activity Level: Medium/high? I have these funky legs that don’t always do what I want them to, but I sure do keep trying. For example stairs are sometimes a challenge for me, and I have been known to narrowly miss large trees while performing zoomies. When the Jolly Balls come out, I lose all sense of dignity and decorum, chasing down these beauties like kids chase an ice cream truck. Inside, as long as I’ve had my morning/evening workout as well as walk, I will reside near you while watching for errant socks. If no socks appear, I like to collect my chew toys around me and give each a few seconds of care, so none are neglected. If you change rooms, however, I will leave them all behind to be with you. If outdoor activity is not available due to that cold white stuff, I do best with very challenging mental stimulation—this prevents me from writing that novel I started on the coffee table.

Fun things I do: I snuffle, hence the nick name Snuffleupagus. I have the cutest little under bite, and often when I’m sleeping my lower lip juts out. When I get really excited (socks? Jolly Ball?) sometimes my lips get caught up in my teeth. I also play Patty Cake, or do the Happy Dance—dancing back and forth with my front feet when food, socks, leashes, and other exciting elements of life come to light. Oh and I grin!! When I first see you and RUN to greet you, I often grin all the way, joyously showing all my front teeth.

Socialization/who I currently live with: I live with my foster mom and two foster siblings.

Copper

Mya
Sex: Male
Age: 2 years
Good with dogs: Yes (I'd love a girlfriend)
Good with cats: No
Good with kids: Yes
Weight: 65 lbs.

Name/Nicknames: Copper

How did I get to ARLP: I walked into a neighborhood store last January to get warm, but I got kicked out for scaring the customers. That’s when my foster mom saw me, I was cold and starving. She left to run home and get my foster dad and some food, but when she came back I was gone. I had hidden in the dumpster behind the store to stay warm and look for food. My foster mom and dad drove around for an hour looking for me, and at the last moment thought to look in the dumpster. As soon as my foster dad got out of the car, I popped my head up out of the dumpster and have been in heaven ever since!

Once we arrived to my foster home, my foster mom noticed my horrible wounds I suffered at the hands of some mean and cruel people. My foster mamma quickly sprang into action and found Jan, ARLP and other agencies who all banded together to get my wounds treated and get me healthy again. Thankfully, there are a lot of good people helping me find my forever home!!!

Hobbies: Chewing, Chewing, and Chewing! Coming in next are running laps in the yard, playing fetch, and tug. My favorite chew toys are tires, kongs, stuffed animals. Oh! And sometimes my mommy’s shoes if she leaves them out for me ;o) I also love playing in the yard and can entertain myself with just about anything, including bushes and tree branches. I really like to run and play with my foster sister too (3yr Staffordshire).

Tricks/Commands: I know sit, lie down, come, no, and can take my treats nicely. I am still working on down, but have been getting a lot better. I am also pretty good at ‘drop’ when I play fetch, but sometimes I would rather just plop down and chew on it.

Crate Trained: I have been confined in a room, but my mom is going to begin crate training me. I think I’ll do best in a crate as long as I have a chew toy to keep me company.

Potty Trained: Yes

Size in pounds: 65 lbs.

Activity Level: Medium-High. I love to run and play in the yard and am eager to go walking now that the ice is off the sidewalks. When my foster mom first gets home I am very excited because I want hugs and kisses, then I like to run in the backyard for awhile and play tag with my foster sister. After that I will calm down and like to lie on the floor by my foster mom and dad.

Fun things I do: I like to run in the backyard. I love to play catch, tug-a-war (with my foster parents and my foster sisters (3 yr old Staffordshire and 11 year old human). I also like to play with the trees and bushes in my yard. I can entertain myself with just about anything ;o)

Socialization/who I currently live with: My foster mom and dad, my foster sisters (3yr old Staffordshire, 11yr old human, and 3 month old human), and my foster brother (9yr old human). I would do best in a house with a female dog to keep my company. If my new home has kids, it would be better for them to be older since I am pretty big and can accidently bump into them but I do very well with my foster sisters and brother – and their friends.

Bailee

Bailee
Sex: Female
Age: 4.5 years
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Yes
Good with kids: Yes
Weight: 65 lbs.

Name/Nicknames: Baby, Bailee

How did I get to ARLP:Original rescued as a stray by 4 Paws.

Hobbies: I love going for walks, playing with my foster sister and meeting new people. I love me some people. I am a happy, exuberant and optimistic gal so it is my personal mission to share that with the world. Who doesn't need that?

Tricks/Commands: I know all the basics...sit, stay, down, heel...and I'm totally smart and eager to please so whatever you want to teach me, I'm down. Especially when there is food involved. However, I really just want to make my person happy. When you are happy I am happy. So for me some good ol' lovin is a great reward.

Crate Trained: Yes

Potty Trained: Yes

Size in pounds: 60 lbs.

Activity Level: Moderate. I need a daily dose of exercise, after that I'm totally happy to chill on the couch. I do like to indulge in some stuffy de-stuffing and thoroughly enjoy playing with human and canine a like.

Fun things I do: With me in your life EVERYTHING is fun! Auntie ARLP Lady said that if she didn't already have so many dogs she would snatch me up in a heartbeat (but I heard she says that to all the dogs). I love to work. So if you like to work on tricks, obedience, rally or just go on a great hike...yep...you're lookin' at your gal.

Socialization/who I currently live with: Foster dad and foster sister Madeline, 5 year old pit bull. I also go to Rott n' Pit Ed to work on my manners. Sometimes that exuberance factor overides the brains factor. Rott n' Pit Ed is also good for my socialization. While I do well with other dogs, my initial impression on them may come off as a little intense. I just get so excited! I'm just a little socially challeneged is all. I really want someone to keep up with my training. I don't want to be a social misfit. I want to meet more and more people and dogs and learn to be polite, I just need you to show me. It will be fun, I promise!!

Now I'm not gonna lie. I am a lot of dog. All heart. To me life is to be lived with gusto. If you are not comfortable with or good at making decisions I will make them for you. I don't want to, I would much rather my person run the show, but if your not up to the job - well someone's gotta do it. And really, do you want a socially challenged gal taking charge? I didn't think so.

Emmersyn

Emmersyn
Sex: Female
Age: 1.5 years
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: ??
Good with kids: Yes
Weight: 60 lbs.

Name/Nicknames: My formal name is Emmersyn, it's an Old English Surname. For short I am called Emme. My foster dad likes to call me Emmers and sometimes even Emmer Sue.

Hobbies: I love to go on nice long walks through the neighborhood. I also love chewing on my nylabone and I have a few toys where my foster mama puts a little bit of kibble inside and I go crazy swatting and pawing the toy around in order to get the kibble out.

Tricks/Commands: I know lots of commands. Sit, Stay, Down, Leave it, Shake (my foster dad is so impressed with me because I shake with both paws. That's rather unusual as dogs, like people, tend to be either right or left handed. My foster dad calls me an ambi-dog.). I'll be completing the Rott n Pit Ed Obedience classes with my foster mama and once I'm done with that I'll hopefully be ready to pass my CGC. After my CGC my foster mama thinks that I should take the test to become a Therapy Dog as my gentle nature, sweet personality and calm presence would enable me to be the perfect therapy dog. I'll keep working with my foster mama on my obedience so that I'll be already for my CGC and Therapy Dog test when I find my forever home!

Crate Trained: Yes, my foster mama gives me a frozen kong or a treat when I go in my kennel. Occassionally I will whine just to remind you that I am in my kennel and to see if you might be ready for me to come out again, but besides that I have no issues in the kennel.

Potty Trained: Yes, no problems at all with this.

Size in pounds: 62lbs. I'm not a little bitty pittie girl, I'm a big girl with long legs.

Activity Level: I have a very moderate energy level. My foster mama would describe me as having an energy tank. To empty my tank I need a nice walk or a game of fetch. Then once my tank is empty, and it's very obvious when this happens because I go from energy to no energy in about 1 second flat, well then I am a very chill girl and am totally happy to rest on the couch next to you.

Fun things I do: I love to play fetch - I could play all day! I don't even have to be asked to drop the ball as after I chase after it and bring it back to you I drop it at your feet because I can't wait for the next throw. Oh and also...I can catch the tennis balls in my mouth too! And if you don't want to play fetch with me that's okay because I have no problem playing a game by myself - I love throwing toys and tennis balls up in the air to myself. I am a serious self-entertainer!

Socialization/who I currently live with: I live with my foster mama and dad and my foster brother, a 4 year old beagle, and my foster sister, a 4 year old pit.

Haley

Haley
Sex: Female
Age: 1.5-2 years
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Yes, as long as they're dog savvy
Good with kids: Yes
Weight: 50 lbs.

Name/Nicknames: Hales, Baby Girl, The Baby

How did I get to ARLP: On July 8th, 2009, federal agents in six states worked together to bring in the largest dog fighting bust in history. The result was around 500 homeless dogs, with the “fighting dog” reputation, a great portion of which were and are adoptable. I am one of the lucky dogs, and managed to worm my way into the heart of folks not only here at ARLP, but also Bad Rap in California, and the wonderful folks who took care of me in Iowa.

Hobbies: I like to adventure and explore my new world. Sometimes I am a little shy, but as soon as I get comfy somewhere – WATCH OUT! I will run and jump around and act like a goofball. I love playing with my foster siblings! My favorite game is “chase me” - I like to egg them on until they chase me around the living room. It is soooo fun ?

Tricks/Commands: I know how to sit, wait for dinner, “kennel up”and “kiss”. I have totally mastered “sit” because I know that as soon as my pretty pittie butt hits the floor something good is coming!

Crate Trained: Yes, I sleep in my crate at night and when mom and dad are at work

Potty Trained: Yes

Size in pounds: 48 lbs. I am long and lean!

Activity Level: Moderate + ; After I get my exercise each day, I love to cuddle in the evening and watch t.v. with mom and dad.

Fun things I do: I rub my WHOLE body into the couch when I am allowed up. I think the couch and the human bed are the most comfortable places in the world! I like to shred cardboard paper towel and tp rolls. I turn them into little tiny pieces of paper. That’s how I learned to recycle!

Socialization/who I currently live with: I live with my foster mom and dad – and 3 doggie foster siblings!! I have quite a few friends who come to visit me, including a 4 yr old girl. I am a bit reserved when first meeting someone, but soon enough I love them all up – as long as they give me lots of love and cuddle with me

Medical Notes: on 2/5/10 I had a surgery on my knee to fix a luxating Patella. The doctors say that I have made a full recovery. I healed very well! My knee is strong and I am ready to run and play again!!!
