Our Placement ProcessAt A Rotta Love Plus, we pride ourselves on not just placing our dogs in their next home, but placing the dog in their LAST home. A Rotta Love Plus is NOT a place to quickly get a cheap dog. We do NOT do same day adoptions and dogs are not adopted out on a first come, first served basis. Our dogs are not located in a central facility. They reside in private foster homes with families. We assume that you have thought long and hard about the decision to bring a dog in to your home and your life and that you have researched these breeds carefully to determine if they are a good fit for your family. Please review the following - it is a guide through your "next-steps" to bringing home your next four footed family member.
Step One - Review our Available DogsView the dogs we have currently have available for adoption and read their descriptions. The dog's description will answer most questions such as if the dog is good with cats, other dogs or children. If you do not see a dog that fits what you are looking for keep checking back because there are always new dogs coming into the program.
Step Two - Fill out an applicationOur application is designed to help you think about what you can and cannot deal with and whether these breeds are a good fit for you and your family. Before filling out the application, please note the following reasons that your application will be declined: Your homeowners insurance does not cover the breed. - Several major insurance companies such as American Family will deny or cancel your homeowners insurance if you choose to own a Rottweiler or Pit Bull. Frankly, even if you choose not to adopt we don't think you should spend your money with a company that discriminates. Not all major insurers feel this way however...State Farm for instance bases is coverage on the behavior of YOUR dog, not it's breed. For more information about homeowners insurance and breed bias, please visit: AVMA You live in Wisconsin or Iowa - we have made this decision based on the fact that BSL is running rampant in WI and IA at the moment. There are rare exceptions to this rule. PLEASE check the laws in your town prior to adopting any Pit Bull or Rottweiler. You are adopting the dog as a surprise and/or a gift - ALL members of the family must meet the dog prior to adoption. The dog will be an outside dog - All dogs adopted through A Rotta Love are expected to live inside as a member of the family. Fill out our online application or you can download the PDF version and e-mail it to us.
Step Three - Phone InterviewOnce a case manager of A Rotta Love Plus has had an opportunity to review your application they will call you to follow up. A telephone interview will be conducted in order to review points on the application, answer any questions, or discuss a particular dog. At this time you can ask any questions you might have about the dog(s) you are interested in and the breed.
Step Four - Meet and GreetsOnce you have been approved, we our foster families will contact you to set up an initial meeting with any dogs that will be a good fit for you and your family. The first meeting will be for all people in the family so you can interact with the dog. We do not have you bring your existing dog (if any) to the first meeting because we want you to spend time with the dog. Provided things go well, the second meeting would be an introduction for any resident dog(s) and the potential adopted dog. The rescue dog will need to meet ALL members of your family including other pets. A Rotta Love determines how many visits are necessary prior to completing an adoption.
Step Five - The Final AdoptionIf after meeting the dog, everyone agrees he/she is a good fit for your family, we will ask you to complete an Adoption Agreement. If you do not agree to the stipulations in the agreement, we cannot adopt a dog to you. An adoption donation of $300, due when you sign the agreement, helps to defray some of the medical and other costs we incur while the dog is in our care. We will provide you with the dog's veterinary records so you will be fully informed of any known medical conditions. As stated above, our dogs are not adopted out on a first come, first serve basis...when we receive multiple approved applications on a particular dog we will place the dog in the home that is the best fit for the dog. While these guidelines may seem a bit strict, we assure you we have found them to be neccessary in finding an exact match for each of our dogs. We love each and every one, and not only want them to be happy, loved, and well-cared for in their new home, but also wish the new family to be comfortable and pleased with their new family member. Therefore, we feel that all of these guidelines must be followed to ensure that the homes we find for our dogs will be forever homes, where they will become an integral part of a loving household. |
