Owner Surrenders
How Could You
A Rotta Love Plus strongly believes that owners should be responsible for their pets. Owning an animal is a LIFETIME COMMITMENT, not an obstacle to be overcome simply because you don't want to spend the money or the time to do what you should. Short of death or dismemberment there are VERY few acceptable reasons to relenquish your dog. For virtually every reason that we have heard over the years we can give you a list of ways to remedy the situation. But the sad truth is, is that once people have come this far they are simply not willing to listen or to do what is neccessary.
There are a variety of options and resources available to help you keep your pet, regardless of the reason. To view some of these, please visit: Wonder Puppy - Can We Help?
Otherwise...
A Rotta Love Plus reserves its limited foster home space for dogs that are in shelters or humane societies and on "death row". We CANNOT take owner surrender dogs into foster care. If you are able to keep your dog in your home, we will consider putting your dog into our "self-foster" program. The following rules will determine if we can assist you in re-homing your Rottweiler/Pit Bull:
- Your dog MUST be a purebred Rottweiler or Bully breed - we cannot accept mixed breeds
- We charge a non-refundable fee of $25 to list your dog with A Rotta Love Plus.
- We require that a member of our rescue meets your family and the dog and visits your home to see the environment in which the dog now lives. We will assess the character and temperament of your dog to determine if it meets the standards of the rescue. You must sign a Surrender Agreement, relinquishing all rights and ownership of your dog to ARL and the adopter upon physical surrender.
- Before we can list your dog on our website, your dog must be up to date on rabies and distemper vaccinations. The dog must have been tested negative for heartworm and have been on monthly heartworm preventative since the last test. The dog must be altered (spayed or neutered).
- If you place the dog yourself at any time after we have posted the information on our website, you must notify ARL immediately, so that the dog can be removed from our website.
What will A Rotta Love Plus do to place your dog?
- We will receive and review applications. To approve an applicant, our case managers call personal and vet references. They talk to and counsel the potential adopters about what they are looking for in a new family member. They will perform a home visit to meet the family, other pets, and to make sure that the dog will be in a good, safe, loving home.
- After being approved, a case manager will contact you to set up a meeting with your family and dog and the potential adopters.
- You will have the final say on whether this is the best home for your dog.
- A Rotta Love Plus will charge the adopter our standard adoption fee. This fee goes directly toward the care of the other dogs in rescue.
If you have questions about any of these guidelines or you wish to place your dog into our program, please fill out the Surrender Application to begin the process or email us if you have further questions.
