Where do they come from?

MACC and SPAC

Most of the dogs accepted into the A Rotta Love Plus program come from Minneapolis Animal Care & Control (MACC) and St. Paul Animal Control (SPAC). We have outstanding relationships with these facilities and have had many wonderful dogs come from there over the past 7 years. These facilities is very good at helping us make an assessment while the dog are serving their time there. The majority of the Rottweilers and Pit Bulls these organizations receive are either strays or surrendered because the owner does not want them.

Winalot Kennels

They are long time Rottweiler enthusiasts and occasionally take in an unwanted dog. Annette and Fred and dear friends of A Rotta Love Plus and quite knowledgeable.

Miscellaneous Humane Societies

We have taken in Rottweilers and Pit Bulls from a number of humane societies in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Sadly, many counties and cities in these other states have begun insituting breed specifc bans and a lot of wondeful dogs are being disposed of and euthanized unneccessarily.

Veterinarian Clinics & Hospitals

Occasionally, a vet clinic will have a Rottweiler brought in to be put to sleep. Most times it is just because the owner doesn't want to accept the responsibility of their dog; they didn't realize what they were getting into and simply give up.

Owner Surrenders

Very rarely will we accept owner surrendered dogs. The reason we do not is because we feel it is the owners responsibility to place their pet. They made the decision to get the dog. These animals are not disposable as so many people think.

We try to take this opportunity to try to educate the owners about responsible pet ownership and try to help them find resources that will allow them to keep their pet.
